Still On The Same Team

Remember Sr. Joni Belford, CPPS? I had the pleasure of presiding at her final vows last month. Sr. Joni, as Executive Director of the PBLC, presided over our meeting this afternoon, and will be attending the PBVFC with us over the next several days. Our faith and spirituality unite us in a common community, yet we find ourselves on opposite teams when watching baseball this week. It is a lonely feeling here in the midwest rooting for the West Coast. Many of the sisters here are rooting for the Cards. We have a bet. The Cards win and I take her to lunch in St. Louis. The Giants win and she takes me to lunch in Chicago. I had previously invited her to Chicago to give a conference to the seminarians. This may be the way to get that accomplished too. Giants are ahead 1-0. Go Giants!!

Sr. Joni checks this Blog from time to time. All you Cards fans can leave your letters of support for her in Conversations.

Is Bush being honest?

This, that Bush overstates threat from Iraq, insiders say, was front page news here in the local paper in Wichita, KS. There is also reported by the sisters here that there is local feeling against the war and that the war is designed just to drum up votes for the election.

I am grateful that the leadership of my community has written a joint letter to the President, in the name of our 1300 members in 27 states, opposing the war in Iraq. I have asked for a copy of the letter, and as soon as Sr. Joni Belford, Executive Director of the PBLC gets home to O’Fallon, she will email it to me and I will post it here.

Generally the first casualty of war is the truth.

Greetings from Wichita

I am in Kansas for a meeting of the Congress Planning board, preparing for the Precious Blood Congress planned for August, 2005. Thursday begins the Precious Blood Vocation Formation Conference, also here in Wichita. This is the meeting of all the Vocation Directors and Formation Director from the men’s and women’s’ communities in the Precious Blood Family.
