Jubilee

Today is the 50th anniversary of my Baptism. Well, I am not really sure if I should be celebrating the the 19th or the 20th. My baptism certificate says I was baptized in Fresno, CA on September 20, 1953 at St. Alphonsus Ligouri Church by Fr. Drieci, a Redemptorist. But.....

You see my Mother was not really willing to take me on the three hour automobile trip to Fresno for my baptism without a few more assurances. She had received permission from Msgr. Martin to hold the baptism elsewhere, in Fresno with extended family, but he had with good reason denied baptizing me conditionally. Mom is upset with him to this day. Let it go, Mom.

Anyway, before beginning that long trip on September 19th, 1953, my mother baptized me in the kitchen sink. From what I know of Catholic Theology, I think it was the first baptism that took.
