The New Gasparian
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

A journal dedicated to the life and mission of St. Gaspar del Bufalo, and to a life lived in response to the call and the cry of the Most Precious Blood of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Our on-going mission is to share good news of hope and communion.

If Nihil Obstat is out there, could you and everyone else take a look at the new edition of the Cup and Cross, the newsletter I edit for the Province of the Pacific of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood. The associate editors and the Provincial are taking their last look at it, but I am sure Nihil Obstat can find something. I will post the final version when it gets sent to the printers.

This was being brought to closure in the midst of a root canal, a thorough teeth cleaning, working on the Provincial Assembly Minutes, and trying to get something to eat with half of your skull numbed.

To all secretaries out there, did you ever notice that minutes take hours?

One Dentist apointment is bad enough. This afternoon I had a second appointment. In the midst of this I had an appointment with my spiritual director/confessor. Someone once said I needed my head examined but I do not think this was what they meant.

In the meantime, I took a break browsing through a bookstore, one of my favorite pastimes. Of course, I told myself that there would be no book buying today. But then I discovered one of my favorite authors has a new book out. The Inner Experience by Thomas Merton has just been published. It is a book he wrote in 1959 and which was never published. He revised it in 1968 shortly before he died. Sections of it have apparently been published in various journals but the work has never been published in its entirety. So even though he has been dead for 35 years, he is still coming out with something new.

I have over 60 books on my shelf by Thomas Merton and I have read them all. My favorite is New Seeds of Contemplation which I have read about 20 times in the last 20 years

The word "swamped" doesn't even cover it.

Having been gone for a week, coming home to an empty house, the men are on their summer pastoral assignments, three papers still to write, The mail is a mile high, and today I spent the morning having a root canal.

Blogging may be slow this week.

Prayers appreciated.
