Here is an important link for those who are still not clear on how important Precious Blood Spirituality is. This will be one of the new links on my sidebar.

Maria Stein

This past weekend when I travelled to Ohio to attend Mark's ordination, I chose to stay at the Maria Stein Spiritual Center. This retreat house was founded by the Sisters of the Precious Blood several years ago, and now is under the direction of Brother Tom Bohman, C.PP.S. Last year I preached a retreat there for Parish Musicians, and also our candidates for the priesthood spent a week there on retreat. I chose it over the hustle and bustle of our center at nearby St. Charles simply because I had been traveling a lot recently and was hopeful for some peace and quiet. I was not disappointed. While I was there Br. Tom booked me to preach a Day of Reflection for Married Couples next Fall.

So it was a surprise this morning for Fr. Dennis Chriszt who lives here in the Formation House in Chicago who discoved a story about Maria Stein when he turned on the radio. The Convent of the Sisters of the Precious Blood and the shrine of the Holy Relics was built in the mid-1800s and is still operated by the Sisters. I have had many recent opportunities to enjoy this shrine recently.

NPR's Morning Edition featured a story about the shrine in this morning's broadcast. You can listen to the broadcast
here. There are also pictures there. Enjoy!
